All Good Things Must End

Today is one such day.  The final book in the wonderful series by Michael Scott, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, ends today with the release of The Enchantress.

I have written about this wonderful series before, which you can find here, here, and here.  If you have not had a chance to read this series, now is a great time since you can just read all 6 straight through and not have to wait for the next one to be released!

Many associated books and reading with solitary activities.  And that can be true.  But a good book, a good series, or just a great author can really bring people together.  If a reader is excited about a book, or series, or author, she wants to talk about that book, share her ideas and thoughts with others, and connect with others about this world that has so captivated her.  This is what this series has done for me. I have given these books as gifts (and will continue to do so), I have shared my books with friends, and I have talked to strangers about these books!

So how did I find these books?  Through friends of course!   Some of the best books come from word of mouth.  And books are meant to be shared.  We may read by ourselves, or maybe we read in groups for school, a book club, or even sharing some read aloud time with friends and family.   And then we find others to talk about the books with, to share our favorite characters, to discuss what happened and to try to guess what happens next.  I am so lucky to be a part of a large, international online community just to talk about these books!

The online forum, started by fans who wanted a place to talk about the books and the many different characters, has grown to almost 4000 members world-wide, who all come to talk about the books, writing, and reading in general.  Friendships have formed and debates/discussions prevail as everyone has a chance to voice their opinions and ideas.  The bonus?  Mr Scott is member of the forum, reading the comments, answering questions, giving hints, and sometimes even sneak peaks or other member only surprises!

Now today we find out how it all ends.  What happens to our favorite characters?  What happens to this world that has so beautifully been created by Mr Scott for us to visit?  It is always a bitter-sweet thing when a books series comes to an end.  We are excited to see how it all comes together, how all the pieces of the puzzle finally come together to show us the final picture.  But it is also sad, because it is the end of the journey for these characters.  With any good book the reader is always asking “Yes, but what comes next??”  But for now, this story will be done.  These characters have completed what they needed to do, it will be time to let them go off into their own tomorrows…and get ready for the next series of books that will spark our imaginations, our hearts, and our minds.

So while it  may be the end of the series, it is not the end of these books.  Why?  For one simple reason…books are meant to be read again and again and again.  While this story may be reaching its conclusion, we always get to go back and visit.  And if Mr Scott has shown us…he still has many ideas about these characters and we just may be lucky enough to get a few more short stories or snippets about them in the days, months, or even years to come.  And of course, there is the online community who will never let these wonderful characters just fade away into the night.

  1. I will have to start reading this series. It sounds wonderful and I love the cover of that book. Plus, now when I love it I can find all the books ready for me when I get through the first one!
