What I am Reading Friday

Well, since I missed last week due to technical difficulties…this is two weeks worth.

I am making may way through the Harry Potter series, finishing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and I am now on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.  I can’t help but say again how much I love these stories!  The depth of character, the level of story development through the whole series, the amazing language she creates and introduces, and the richness of this magical world that Ms Rowling has created.  It calls to me, welcomes me home, and enraptures me every time I pick up these books.  I truly can not wait to share them with my kids.  I am thinking a movie marathon is in order here very soon!  And as an added bonus…getting lost in the world of Harry Potter has made me stop hating my treadmill time.

I also read the second short story for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who by the great Mr Michael Scott, The Nameless City. Oh boy, this was GOOD!  I have not seen much of the original Doctor Who series. I got hooked when with the 9th Doctor, the amazing Christopher Eccelston.  But this did not stop my enjoyment of this story.  It was very “Doctor Who” but also very Michael Scott.  It was a fun adventure for the Doctor, one that I could totally visualize as an episode.  It had all the fun and adventure of Doctor Who, but also the mystery and depth and mythology of Michael Scott.  A perfect way to spend the time waiting for the little girl in karate while the dragon napped.  And I wanted to read more!!

We ended up cancelling our book club for this month due to scheduling conflicts.  So that leaves me with more time to tackle those books on my to read list.  Today I picked up two more books at the library for me to get lost in this week (hopefully this week!).  Fragments by Dan Wells, the second in his Partials Sequence.  If you have not checked this one yet…and enjoy the dystopian future young adult genre, this should be a must read on your list!

I also picked up Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys.  I don’t much about this book, but I so enjoyed her first book that I am excited to see what other stories she has created.  You can read my review of her first book here.

On the read aloud with my four year old front, we have finished all the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Clearly.  She really did enjoy the antics of Ramona!  And now on to a book of daddy’s choice…The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien.  I am not 100% sure I would have picked this for our next book, but daddy and monkey have been talking about the story and she wanted to give it a try.  It is going to take us awhile to get through this one as the chapters are longer than the “traditional” early chapter books, but so far she seems to be enjoying the story.  The worst thing that happens is she gets bored, scared, or disinterested in this story and we put it aside to try again later.  I asked my mom when she first read this book to me and I was right about the monkey’s age, so who knows!  All I remember from this reading is loving the story, but being scared of the beautiful illustration of Smaug…so much that mom had to take the book out of my room each night so the dragon could not escape from the book to eat me!  Monkey is loving the map in the book.  And the illustrations really are amazing.  So, we will give it a go and see what happens!

There is just so much to read…and I find time so hard to come by to really just lose myself in a good book.  Between two kids, two cats, and a hubby…life is pretty busy.  Not to mention trying to find time to work on craft projects, watch movie, see friends, and this little thing called SLEEP…I could really just use about 4 more hours in the day.  Yet again, this would probably just result in more laundry and yet one more time to clean the kitchen!

Happy reading!!
